Hot stamping foil

Hot stamping transfers a decorative layer with a heated die and pressure. It is well suited to defined details, premium highlights and applications where strong edge definition is important. The die, temperature, dwell time and substrate surface all influence the result.

Cold foil

Cold foil uses a printed adhesive and UV curing to transfer the foil, commonly inline with offset or flexographic printing. It can support fine artwork, larger decorated areas and efficient overprinting without a heated stamping die.

What should drive the decision?

Consider press configuration, run length, decorated area, substrate, overprinting, registration tolerance and the intended appearance. Neither process is universally better: the appropriate route is the one that fits the converter’s equipment and the approved artwork.
