MATERIAL UPGRADE ROUTES

Sustainable Packaging Pathways

Engineered for recycling goals, material efficiency and machine runnability.

Packaging transitions require a balance of material use, barrier performance and line efficiency. We help customers compare practical reduction, replacement and recovery-compatible routes for their specific pack structure.

FOUR MATERIAL PATHWAYS

Start with the component you can change.

01 / REDUCE

Plastic Reduction & Down-Gauging

Assess thinner overwrap film and optimized board grades against pack protection, stiffness and high-speed runnability.

  • Lower-gauge BOPP, subject to line trials
  • Board caliper and basis-weight optimization
Explore overwrap film →
02 / SIMPLIFY

Mono-Material Compatibility

Review material combinations that may fit a common recovery stream, with coatings, adhesives and sorting conditions considered.

  • BOPP overwrap with selected MOPP tear tapes
  • Transfer board without a retained PET carrier film
Explore tear tape →
03 / REPLACE

Film-Free Optical Paperboard

Use transfer metallization where a premium optical effect is needed without keeping a laminated PET film on the finished board.

  • Holographic transfer paperboard
  • Barrier-coated board options by application review

04 / SOURCE

Renewable & Recycled Inputs

Specify fiber origin and recycled-content targets by grade, mill and order. Evaluate alternative tape materials where supply and performance allow.

  • Certified-fiber or recycled-fiber board options
  • Selected cellulose-based tear tape options

OPTION MATRIX

Compare the upgrade route.

These are design options, not blanket claims of certification or commercial availability. Confirm grade, test method and finished-pack performance before specification.

Application Conventional route Upgrade to evaluate Potential benefit
Overwrap film Standard-gauge BOPP Lower-gauge BOPP Less film mass at equal area, subject to protection and line trials
Tear tape PET or mixed-material tape MOPP tape with PP overwrap; selected cellulose options Improved material alignment or renewable input, depending on construction
Premium board PET film-laminated board Transfer metallized board No retained PET carrier film in the finished board
Inner frame / carton Standard virgin-fiber board Certified-fiber or recycled-fiber grade, where suitable Documented fiber sourcing or recycled input

Illustrative calculation: a change from 20 μm to 16 μm at equal film area and density would reduce film mass by 20%. It is not a measured reduction for a complete pack or a confirmed product specification.

DOCUMENTATION & VALIDATION

Claims follow the exact grade and finished structure.

Tell us the material, destination market and claim you need to support. We will confirm which supplier declarations or independent test reports are available for the selected specification.

Documents to review by project

  • Fiber sourcing and chain-of-custody records, if applicable
  • Restricted-substance and market-specific compliance declarations
  • Paper or plastic stream recyclability assessments, where tested
  • Carbon or life-cycle data, where independently prepared
  • Contact-safety or heavy-metal reports, when relevant to the application

No certification, recycling outcome or carbon figure is implied across the full DULCET portfolio. Local collection and the full pack construction affect recyclability.
