Laminated paperboard retains the film
In a laminated construction, optical PET or BOPP film remains bonded to the board. This can provide a robust visual surface and selected barrier or durability benefits. Film grade, adhesive, board stiffness and post-lamination finishing must be specified together.
Transferred paperboard retains only the effect
In a transfer process, the metallic or holographic layer is moved from a temporary PET carrier to the paperboard. The carrier is then removed, leaving the optical surface without the film remaining in the final board structure.
Compare the complete project requirement
The appropriate route depends on sustainability objectives, surface durability, print system, creasing and folding performance, visual target and converter capability. Appearance alone is not enough to make the choice.
Validate printing and converting
Both routes should be tested with the intended inks, coatings, die-cutting, creasing and gluing conditions. Learn more about DULCET’s optical paperboard structures.
